Troubleshooting

Installation Troubles

Q:
I've installed WebSentinel as described in the documentation, but it isn't allowing me to enter a secure realm even when using the correct username and password as defined in WebSentinel Admin. Why?

A:
If you are certain you have installed WebSentinel properly and are experiencing this problem the most likely cause is that your web server is trying to handle the realm and is not allowing WebSentinel to do its job. If there are realms defined within your web server itself, it will try to protect those realms without using WebSentinel at all. Once you have defined all of your realms within WebSentinel Admin, you must remove them from your web server so WebSentinel can handle the security. To see how to do this with WebSTAR, please see the Migrating from WebSTAR or Migrating from WebSTAR 4.0chapters.

WebSentinel Admin

Q:
When I try to connect to my server there is no listing for the web server application.

A:
First be sure your Web Server application is running and the WebSentinel Plug-in is installed in the plug-ins folder. Then make sure that your webserver software is properly configured to allow program linking and that the User you are connecting as has program linking enabled. Further information on connecting to your server may be found in the Introduction to WebSentinel chapter.

If you have sharing properly enabled and you still do not see your server, you can try holding down the shift key as you select the machine name in the left side of the connection dialog. While holding the shift key down, you should see all running processes on the server.
